Historically used by Hawaiians for fishing and transportation, outrigger canoes are now commonly used throughout the islands for sport and recreation. Kayaking For surfing alternatives, consider kayaking in the south coast waters of Kīhei, Mākena and Keone‘ō‘io or La Pérouse Bay. (There are lots of lessons for beginners!) Head out to the water, pack a picnic and a towel and don’t forget the sunscreen and hat!
